The Grande Île experience

Grande île is located in the heart of the Mingan archipelago. It is the largest island in the archipelago, one of the wildest and most majestic. As it is far from Havre-Saint-Pierre, and few adventurers have the chance to discover it.

Grande Ile has its personality. Its cliffs are unique and imposing and there are several groupings of monoliths, including the Castle and the Zoo. It is home to impressive seal colonies and of  numerous seabirds. On foot, we can observe several rare plants that frequent the island, where the tundra landscapes often look like the Arctic.

We depart from Havre-Saint-Pierre by zodiac to reach the Grande Île, from where we will leave by sea-kayak. During this cruise, we will navigate in the Mingan channel and cross the islands of the central sector of the archipelago. This navigation is often the opportunity to observe marine mammals and on the return, a beautiful moment appreciate the end of the day.

Once there, we find ourselves in a place little frequented by visitors. Then, it’s adventure depending on the tides and the weather, kayaking along the shores and hiking to visit part of the coastline of the Grande Île.
